About Questions

Create questions to survey customers and gather additional information during the checkout process. Questions can be set as optional or mandatory, and open-ended or multiple choice.

First, you can click the dropdown and select the type of question you'd like to ask. These are the basic question types:

  • Text - Enter the question in the field provided, and determine whether the question is required (ex: it must be answered to complete the purchase process). The customer will be presented with a short, blank field to enter their response.
  • Multiple Choice - Enter the question in the field provided. When you create a multiple-choice question, you need to enter all of the possible responses in the fields that appear below this section. As you complete each entry, an additional field will appear for you to enter additional questions. Click the X to delete any entries, and click and drag any entry to rearrange the order presented to the customer.
  • Waiver - This special question type is reserved for important, mandatory questions. Enter the waiver title and use the rich text editor to enter the details of the agreement. Finally, you'll need to enter the agreement phrase (ex: "I have read and agree to the terms outlined above").
  • Address - Collects all address data.  Of special note: this question type does not export separate fields on a CSV file and needs extra formatting to work correctly in Excel. Its specific purpose is to export the address for a mailing house.
  • Phone - Collects phone number. Phone number must be formatted as 10 digits with no spaces or punctuation (ex: 4125556767)
  • Email - Collects email address.  Must be formatted as an email address (ex: clients@leapevent.com)
  • Number - Require the customer to enter a number with minimum and maximum digits.
    • Ex:  'How old are you?' Questions can have a minimum of 1 digit and a maximum of 3 digits; this helps you to get usable answers  and avoid answers like 'thirty-seven' or 'no answer.'
  • Number Range -  Require the customer to enter a number between a minimum and maximum. Could be used for asking a child's age on a restricted price level (ex: 'How old is your child?' Set a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 12)
  • URL - Ask a customer for their website. This is useful for clients selling booths and other business-related price levels.
  • Date - Ask a customer to choose a date from a calendar.
  • Opt In - Place an additional opt-in checkbox-style question at the final checkout stage.
    • The additional opt-in question(s) will appear just before the "Complete order" button.
    • The opt-in checkbox is programmed to be unchecked by default to assist with the consumer's implicit opt-in.
    • Do you plan on creating a question to acquire customer SMS texting opt-in, and do you have an API integration with a third-party SMS marketing provider? If so, these providers ask that your opt-in admin question name begin with “SMS Opt-In.”
    • Note that opt-in questions are unique to a customer’s specific order. Question responses do not dynamically update any customer opt-in tracking fields but rather capture each customer response.
