Using Sidekick for Thermal Printing

The article explains how to use Sidekick for ticket printing.

If you are currently experiencing or begin to experience Sidekick issues, please delete the existing application and download and install the latest version. 

Note: After downloading and installing, a CPU reboot may be necessary for successful operation.

 

Sidekick is an application that helps you print thermal tickets. The application runs in the background while you operate the Admin in your Internet browser to print thermal tickets and receipts. Sidekick is currently supported by Windows Vista and all newer versions of Windows, as well as macOS.

Getting Started with Sidekick

  1. Log into Event Ticketing: http://admin.ticketbooth.com.au
  2. Sign in with your email and password
    1. Please note that Firefox is also supported — simply allow Sidekick to run when prompted.
  3. Visit http://admin.ticketbooth.com.au/sidekick and download the correct version for your computer's operating system — the recommended option will be highlighted

    Any Sidekick updates will be highlighted in a banner at the top of the page. Be sure always to download the latest version when prompted.

     
  4. Run the installer 
    1. Leave the default settings in place
    2. The final steps may take several minutes depending on your version of Windows
    3. For MacOS - Sidekick is a secure application developed by Ticketbooth; however, it is not available on the App Store. Because of Apple's policy, you may be required to adjust your security settings to install Sidekick. Please consult Apple's guide on installing apps from third-party developers.
  5. Restart your computer when you are prompted to do so
  6. Sign in to the Admin once again, and visit the Organization page (located in Settings). 
    1. Click Edit Default Advanced Settings
  7. Choose to enable Use Sidekick for Thermal Printing
  8. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and select Submit.

Need to run a test? Find a previous sale in your account, and click Print Thermal Tickets.

 

Once installed, Sidekick will automatically run in the background. When active, an icon will display in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. (It may be hidden if you have many programs running in some versions of Windows.) If Sidekick is not running, click the icon on your desktop to open the application's dashboard.

Troubleshooting

Important If you cannot find your issue in this guide, or if none of the solutions solve your problem, email clients@ticketbooth.com.au with a detailed description of your situation, including your Internet browser, your current version of Windows, and the installer option you chose when you installed the application.

 

The Sidekick icon does not appear in the taskbar

Sidekick is not currently running. Please make sure that the taskbar is not hiding the icon when you have multiple applications running.

  1. Click the Sidekick icon on your desktop to open the application
  2. Visit http://admin.ticketbooth.com.au/sidekick/download to install the latest version

When I attempt to print, an error message displays: "Unable to detect Sidekick."

Sidekick is not currently running.

When I attempt to print, a Java pop-up window appears

Your organization has not enabled access to Sidekick.

  1. In the Admin, access the Organization page (located in Settings)
  2. Click Edit Advanced Default Settings, and then click Use Sidekick for Thermal Printing 
  3. Refresh the page on which you attempted to print a ticket, and try again

"Sidekick is out of date" displays when I attempt to print

You are not operating the latest version of Sidekick. If your Sidekick version is outdated, you may receive a banner notification that you should update to the latest version.

Visit http://admin.ticketbooth.com.au/sidekick/download and download the latest version of the application.

"Communication error with Sidekick" displays when I attempt to print

Sidekick is encountering a compatibility issue with your version of Windows.

  1. Restart your computer
  2. Manually enable the required Windows settings
    1. Read how to enable on Windows Vista
    2. How to enable on Windows 7+
    3. When prompted, check both LPD Print Service and LPR Port Monitor
      1. Click OK
  3. Click the taskbar icon while Sidekick is running, and click Send Report
